Free HTML templates are easy to find and hard to choose between. There are thousands of them, the quality varies, and the word “free” hides very different rules about credit links and client work.
This list is for small business owners, students and developers who want a clean starting point at no cost. Every template here is free to download. We start with the three free HTML templates from our own catalog, then cover six good options from other creators, and for each one we state the license terms so there are no surprises later.

What “Free” Means: Licenses at a Glance
Most free HTML templates fall under one of three kinds of terms. Knowing which one applies saves trouble later.
- MIT. Use it for anything, including client work. You keep the license notice in the code, and no visible credit is needed.
- Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY 3.0). Free for personal and commercial use, but you must credit the author, usually with a link in the footer.
- Site-specific free licenses. Some sites add their own conditions, such as keeping a footer credit, no client work on the free version, or features held back for the paid version. Always read the license page of the site you download from.
How to Choose a Free HTML Template
- Match the page count to your site. A one page template is enough for a local service or a product launch. A company with services, a team and a blog needs a multi page one.
- Check the stack. Plain HTML and CSS is easiest to edit by hand. Bootstrap and Tailwind templates are quicker to extend if you already know them.
- Test the forms. A contact form in a static template does not send email by itself. You need a form service or a small script behind it.
- Look at it on a phone. Open the live demo on a small screen before you download anything.
- Read the license. If the site is for a client or you cannot show a credit link, choose an MIT template or a paid one.
When a Paid Template Is the Better Deal
Free templates cover a narrow range of industries. If you need a design made for your type of business, a paid template usually costs less than the hours spent reshaping a free one. Our HTML templates start at $11 and include more than a hundred designs, from clinics and law firms to restaurants and real estate. Browse the HTML templates collection or the free templates page.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are free HTML templates really free?
The download is free, but the conditions differ. Some only need the license kept in the code, some require a visible credit link, and some do not allow client work on the free version. Check the license for each template.
Can I use a free HTML template for a commercial website?
Usually yes. MIT and Creative Commons Attribution templates allow commercial use, with credit required for the second. A few sites limit the free version to personal projects, so read their terms first.
Do I have to keep the footer credit link?
If the license asks for attribution, yes. Sites such as BootstrapMade and Colorlib sell a paid license that lets you remove it. MIT templates do not require a visible credit.
How do I edit an HTML template?
Download the files, open them in a code editor such as VS Code, and replace the text, images and links. Then upload the folder to any web host.
Where can I host an HTML template for free?
Static HTML sites can be hosted free on services such as GitHub Pages, Netlify and Cloudflare Pages, usually with your own domain connected.
What is the difference between an HTML template and a Webflow or Framer template?
An HTML template is a set of files you edit in code and host anywhere. Webflow and Framer templates are edited visually inside those platforms and hosted by them, which is easier to manage but ties the site to a paid plan.
